Curry Puff

A “puff” is a small dumpling made of all kinds of fillings. Baked or fried, the skin is folded to wrap up the filling like a turnover or an empanada, a famous baked pastry in Latin America. As a common snack in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and South East Asia, curry puff has a great variety of fillings. A curry puff is usually made of chicken or beef, curry powder, onions and potatoes. Though the ingredients and flavors of curry puff varied from region to region. In Indonesia, a curry puff contains no curry but meats, vegetables, rice vermicelli or eggs, similar to Garlic Chives turnovers. In Malaysia, curry puffs are stuffed with boiled eggs or sardines and served with sweet chili sauce. Aside from curry, other common flavors include eggs, spices, vegetables, meats or fish, or sweet fillings such as yam. However, among all these varieties, curry puff is the most popular.
