Egg Roll

Egg roll is a variant of spring roll served in American Chinese restaurants. Unlike a spring roll, an egg roll is wrapped with thick wheat flour skin with shredded cabbage and meat fillings. Also fried, egg roll is served hot with various dipping and sauces, like mustard and duck sauce. Egg roll is like the fortune cookie, which was invented by Chinese immigrant rather than Asian food. Interestingly, although an egg roll is called an egg roll, it does not typically contain egg in the filling. While there are authentic spring rolls, popiah, lumpia and nem rán served in Asian restaurants, American egg rolls are distinctive and popular to the locals.
