Sesame Ball

Fried sesame ball is a vegan snack eaten during Lunar New Year and a popular dim sum. A sesame ball is made of fried glutinous rice ball stuffed with bean paste, pumpkin paste, taro paste, sweat potato paste, custard or peanut. Fried sesame ball can also contain two or more fillings at the same time. Sesame is a flavorful nut widely used in Asian cuisine, especially desserts. Roasted, ground and mixed with sugar and oil, sesame is a popular filling for mochi, glutinous rice ball, confectionery and pastry. Another usage of sesame is coating. Mochi, cookie, pie, flatbread, pastry and dessert coated with roasted sesame are rich with phenomenal flavor. In the case of fried sesame ball, it could be both. Coated with white sesame and filled with black sesame paste, the crispy skin, chewy wrapper and sandy filling is sensational.
